Socrates the Younger (STY): power and evidence
OPSB’s September 2026 table lists STY as approved and under construction at 250 MW. The regulator separately describes 116 MW of battery storage. October compliance-report contents remain pending.

How to interpret the record
Use June 25 as the approval date shown in the regulator’s status table. June 26 is the publication date of its announcement. Keeping these dates separate prevents a news timestamp from becoming a permit-decision date.
BTW’s older uncited event archive used 296 MW of turbines. The accessible regulator sources use 250 MW for the gas facility. This dossier uses the regulator’s stated project boundary and preserves the discrepancy for reconciliation against the underlying technical filings. The reviewed evidence does not establish a 46 MW physical reduction.
The battery’s 116 MW power rating is separate from gas generation. It is not 116 MWh, does not establish duration and should not be added to gas capacity as continuously deliverable power.
A quarterly compliance filing can precede operation. The October notice does not itself override the dated under-construction classification or prove commissioning.
What remains unknown?
- Reason for the older 296 MW turbine figure and its relationship to the 250 MW project rating
- Current physical status after the regulator’s September snapshot
- Equipment count, model and site-versus-nominal turbine ratings
- Battery energy capacity in MWh and discharge duration
- Contents and findings of the October Q3 compliance report
What to check next
- Read the public narrative, staff report and amendments to resolve the 296 / 250 MW boundary.
- Check commissioning and in-service notices before changing the project to operating.
- Read the Condition 15 report before describing complaints or compliance outcomes.
A documented project participant or equipment model is a research lead, not proof that procurement is open. Scope a monitoring pilot around the specific records and decisions you need.

Questions about this project
Is STY a 366 MW continuously available power plant?
The reviewed sources do not establish that. They describe 250 MW of gas generation and separate 116 MW battery power, without a storage-duration figure.
Did STY lose 46 MW?
That is not established. An older BTW event used 296 MW without a source link. The current official sources describe a 250 MW project; the technical basis for the difference remains unresolved.
