Texas behind-the-meter data center power projects

Start with the air record. Follow the equipment, the legal entity and the dates before treating a proposed campus as available power.

What is documented in Texas?

Start with the reviewed Abilene equipment dossier and 3 additional project research dossiers below. Crusoe Stargate Abilene is identified in the air record as Longhorn Data Center, operated by Abilene DC 1, LLC. Its January 2025 permit review specifies 360.5 MW on a permitted, site-rated basis. Current metered delivery to computing is not established.

The broader inventory below contains 32 Texas entries with 63.2 GW of reported capacity from a third-party snapshot dated April 30, 2026. It is a research starting list. The snapshot's project statuses and expected dates have not been reverified here.

These selected primary-source dossiers distinguish regulator evidence, developer reports and open questions. They are separate research coverage and add no MW to the reviewed facility fleet or historical inventory.

Abilene: a permit trail you can follow

The original registration technical review records an August 15, 2024 receipt date. The later modification was received January 11, 2025 and approved January 22. These are different milestones: the modification date is not the first filing date.

The 177263 modification technical review changes the fleet from six to five turbines of each model. Five LM2500 units at 34.1 MW and five Titan 350 units at 38 MW give 170.5 + 190 = 360.5 MW. The review describes onsite use for data centers and computing. The separate O4721 federal operating permit was issued January 16, 2026.

Crusoe's September 30, 2025 announcement establishes that the data center was live by that report. It does not establish the exact first day of BTM generation or measured power from every permitted unit.

Texas project pipeline: the dated announcement layer

This is the Texas subset of the Environmental Integrity Project inventory carried in BTW's open data. Names, technologies, status and expected years below are as reported on April 30, 2026, including entries whose expected dates may now have passed. They are not confirmations of present construction, equipment orders, permits or operation. Capacities can describe different project phases and boundaries.

How to qualify a Texas project

  1. Match the legal entity and location. Marketing names can differ from the permit applicant. Abilene DC 1 / Longhorn is an example; a name match alone is insufficient.
  2. Identify the document stage. A filing, technical review, issued authorization and operating record answer different questions. Keep the first application and later amendments separate.
  3. Check the equipment boundary. Separate primary onsite gas generation, emergency backup and grid capacity. Track the phase, model, count, site rating and hours together.
  4. Check commercial relevance directly. A permit naming equipment is not evidence of an open procurement opportunity. Verify scope and participants before treating a project as a sales lead.

To model economics after establishing scope, use the gas generation cost calculator. Replace the illustrative assumptions with your project's fuel, utilization, installed cost and tariff inputs.
